HOW TO ADD AN EMAIL SUBSCRIPTION TO YOUR BLOG
In our last post, we showed how to add a Feedburner RSS feed to your blog so that your readers can subscribe to your blog more easily and so that you can analyze your blog subscriptions, for example, the number of subscribers, the feed readers that they use. This post will show you how you can add an email subscription to your blog.
Reason to add email subscription to your blog
However, not all readers like to use RSS, some readers prefer to receive the latest blog posts by subscribing by email. For this reason, you will often see subscription options for email and RSS feeds in blogs; Bloggers are doing this to satisfy the different preferences of their readers.
Readers simply enter their email address and then click on "Subscribe." They then receive an email notification when new posts or information have been added to the blog.
There are two main options you can use to add an email subscription to your blog:
Drag the Email Subscription Widget to your sidebar (here is more information on using Widgets)
Create and add an email subscription using Feedburner for your blog.
These two options work very differently:
Edublogs Email Subscription Widget: Send an email to your reader immediately that a new post has been added to your blog. However, to read the publication, your reader must click on a link that takes them to the publication on your blog.
Feedburner email subscription: send your full post to your readers the day after it is uploaded to your blog, that is, they can read the entire post as an email instead of following the link. Note that the images are not displayed in the email. The advantages of Feedburner include details of your subscribers, for example, number of email subscribers, their email addresses
Whichever email subscription you use, be sure to subscribe to your blog using it; so you know how your posts look when people receive them by email. Usually
Creating an email subscription for your blog using Feedburner
Once you have created and added an RSS feed from Feedburner to your blog (here are instructions on how to add an RSS feed from Feedburner to your blog), the next step is to set up your email subscription with Feedburner (follow the instructions in the diagram below).
Add your Feedburner email subscription to your blog
The code for your Feedburner email subscription is in your Publish tab. You must add this to a text widget in the sidebar.
In the panel of your blog, go to Design> Widgets
Scroll to Text Widget in your available widget area (left side of the control panel) and click Add.
Click Edit in the text widget that has been added to your current widget area.
Paste the code for the Feedburner email in Text Widget. Click on Change
Click Save changes in the lower part of the current widget area (right side of the board).
