How to change the name servers with NAMECHEAP 

While HostGator do not modify the DNS on registrars of third parties in its name, we can provide you with instructions on how to do so. Here's how you can change your DNS in Namecheap.com.

Domain Transfer from Namecheap to Hostgator

Step 1: Find the DNS for your hosting account

The first step is to find out what the name servers to use for your hosting account HostGator; this varies according to the type of accommodation and server. For instructions on how to find the DNS, read the following article:

Step 2: Change the DNS domain name

Log in to your panel Namecheap.com.

Select Domain List from the left sidebar.

Click on the Manage button to the right of the domain that you want to update.

Next to the name servers section, select Custom from the drop-down menu.

Enter your name servers in the dotted lines. Click Add Name server if you have more than 2 name servers.

Click the check mark in the section edited to save the changes.

Note: Once you have made changes to your DNS on the recorder, there will be 24-48 hour time DNS propagation during which your website and email may not be available.

HostGator customers can change your DNS domain name within the interface of cPanel

Domain pointing Namecheap HostGator Hosting:

If you already have a domain acquired from NAMECHEAP, log in to your Namecheap dashboard.

Under the section "Dashboard", search for the domain name that you want to point to HostGator and click "Manage". 


  1. Choose Servers Namecheap HostGator
  2. Scroll down to the section "Name Servers".
  3. Click the drop-down menu where it says "NAMECHEAP BasicDNS" and select "Custom DNS".

Set DNS Namecheap

You can get your HostGator name server details in the welcome email or, simply log in to your account of cPanel, and on the left-hand side, you will see the names associated with your account of HostGator.

You just have to catch the nameserver details and update this information at NAMECHEAP.

Again, be sure to add the name servers provided by HostGator for your account. You can find in the welcome email of HostGator.

When you are finished adding in the name servers, click the green check mark to save your changes.

 Name servers for your domain are now pointed out HostGator.
