ConvertKit for beginners: why I Switch from Aweber to ConvertKit

The ConvertKit beginner's guide

I admit that when I switched to ConvertKit I was confused. Like: "I signed up, now what?" There were all these new features and terms that I was not familiar with, so instead of leaving you in the dark, I thought I would explain it to you! So here is my beginner's guide to ConvertKit.

ConvertKit is an email service provider created specifically for bloggers. It helps you keep track of activities and statistics on your site, continues with all your email marketing and helps you increase your email list.

No matter which plans you choose, you get the same amazing features. The amount you pay is based on the number of subscribers you have and, unlike many other email service providers, you are not charged twice by the same subscriber.

STARTING SCREEN

Now, let's analyze each of the features offered by ConvertKit and how you can take advantage of them. Once you have registered and logged in, you will be taken to your home page, where the first thing you will see is a kind of graphic below the subscribers.

This tells you how many subscribers you received on a specific day, how many in total in a week, in a month, and since you started using ConvertKit.

Each bar in the graph has different colors. If you scroll over each of them, you can see how many subscribers opted for that content update or main magnet that day. Out of the bat, this is already very useful! When I was in MailChimp it was very difficult to know who joined each list.

SHAPES

In the upper left corner of the home page and below the subscriber's section, you can create forms and view all the forms you have made. The forms can be inserted anywhere on your website and this is where someone who visits your website can write your email to subscribe to your newsletter, receive a content update, get a coupon code, etc.

You can customize the colors and styles of each form to match your brand. You can also program it to perform specific actions once that person presses that button.

The next tab above is Sequences. This is where you can begin to perform the email sequences for these forms and landing pages. You can schedule these sequences to send emails over a specific period of time since a person registered and subscribed.

These emails are sent automatically and each one is highly customizable. You can specify what date, at what time, and even skip some subscribers that you do not want that email to be sent to.

Think of the sequences as each action has a reaction. If a person completes a form, you can configure it to be a trigger for another sequence of emails related to that first form to be sent. A subscriber can also be tagged for another sequence of emails if you download a certain link or complete another form. The options are endless!

The sequences are an amazing way to make continuous contact with your reader without having to write newsletters constantly. This creates a relationship with your reader and allows them to know you and your blog without additional effort on their part.

The transmissions

In addition to the sequences, there are emissions. This is an email explosion that you can choose to send to all your subscribers or to a specific list of people you are targeting. Like the sequences, you can also schedule it to be sent at a certain date and time. You can also specifically design the colors, styles, and formats of these transmissions.

SUBSCRIBERS

After the transmissions is the subscriber's tab. The subscriber's tab is a summary of your entire email list and its specific groups. These groups are defined by labels. Tagging certain subscribers can automatically trigger ConvertKit to send them a certain sequence of emails that they would probably be interested in or can store in a tag (group) of people you know who are interested in a certain product or type of content.

When you perform a sequence, you can specify which tags, that is, which people, will receive that series of emails. A subscriber can have more than one label assigned to them manually or that is assigned automatically according to their activity.

Automations

The last tab in ConvertKit is Automations. Automations are certain rules that you apply to your email sequences. When an event or trigger occurs, as if someone signs up, is tagged, clicks on a link, etc., an action is produced in return. The configuration is really easy to understand and basically, you are planning the cause and the effect. Each automation is also customizable.

These automation features are really GOLD! This is what I sold when switching to ConvertKit. I knew that I could provide my email subscribers with much more specific information if I took advantage of this.

My favorite automation is to add someone to a tag or sequence when a link is clicked. That way, in an email, you can ask what they're interested in and, according to the link they click on, you can automatically subscribe them to a relevant sequence of emails.

Another way to use the automation function is when you promote your own products or affiliate products. You can add an automation so that when someone clicks on the link of your product (or an affiliate product) it is added to a list of "interested parties".

Because they clicked, they expressed at least some level of interest in the product so that you can send them through a follow-up sequence on that topic or a funnel for your product. Very good, right?

DO YOU NEED TO GET YOUR HANDS ON THESE SLEEP CHARACTERISTICS?

ADD SUBSCRIBERS FROM MailChimp TO CONVERTKIT

If you are in MailChimp and want to change (as I was) here are the steps you must follow to change. I thought it would be very difficult, but it's not really that bad.

1. Import your MailChimp lists into a CSV file
to. Log in to MailChimp and click on the "Lists" tab
second. Click on the list that you want to export.
do. Click on "Export list

2. Go to the Subscribers tab in ConvertKit and click on "Import subscribers"
3. Select which label or form you want to be added to the new subscribers
4. Upload your CSV file and click on "Import subscribers" again.

Your subscribers are now added to your ConvertKit account!

Do not forget to change your MailChimp opt-in forms for your new ConvertKit!

Simply take the code of each of your ConvertKit forms and replace that code where your MailChimp code used to be. Easy peasy!

ConvertKit makes it so easy for you to do email marketing on your own. It is an essential tool for bloggers. It is, literally, a tool that pays for itself because it is much more effective than the other email marketing services that exist.

What feature of ConvertKit are you going to try first?

10 reasons why I changed from Aweber to ConvertKit

I recently changed from Aweber to ConvertKit for email marketing. Today, I want to tell you all the reasons why.

Like many new coaches, I started my newsletter with a free MailChimp account. Back then, the free version was as robust as the paid version, only limited the number of people you could have on your list. So, I stayed with them until my list exceeded the free limit, and then, I switched to Aweber.

I moved to Aweber and stayed with them for about three years. But, as my list grew and my offers became more diverse, I began to feel limited by the features. I wanted to be able to segment my list of ways that were not possible without massive tricks on the back-end. And even with the hacks, I was a bit clumsy to use and I was always frustrated by the inefficiency of their system.

Then, when I started to change my business to its current iteration, I knew that I wanted to change to something a little more sophisticated. I had seen and heard a lot about the robust features of Infusion-soft, but those features seemed to have a high price and a learning curve the size of Mount Everest. Ontraport and Active Campaign seemed like options, but then I heard an interview with Nathan Barry, who is the founder of ConvertKit.

I checked in before the interview ended!

Since then, I've fallen in love with her! I have recommended ConvertKit to all my clients and practically anyone who requests it. These are the reasons why:

1. An easy-to-use interface

When you log in to ConvertKit, everything you need is right there. You do not have to click on screen after screen to do things. With the other services, you often have to dig to find out how to do things. For example, let's say that I write a publication that includes a "content update". I can have it running in less than 2 minutes, assuming I've already created the content. With the other services, we would be looking for between 15 minutes and a half hour.

2. The automation features

The automation features of ConvertKit are impressive. You will see more of what I want to say as this article continues. However, for now, I'll just say that ConvertKit makes it very easy to add tags and segments and ensure that the "flow" of your subscribers works the way you want.

3. No more paying for duplicate subscribers

The price of ConvertKit is already excellent. Only $ 29 for up to 1,000 subscribers. But what makes that price really good is that you are not paying for duplicates or subscription cancellations.

Let's say you have more than one voluntary subscription offer and someone is subscribed to a couple of them. In ConvertKit, you pay for them as a single subscriber, assuming they used the same email address. However, in Mailchimp and Aweber, if a person is on two of their lists, you pay for two subscribers instead of one. As your list and the number of subscription offers increase, this can begin to add up and make a big difference in what you pay each month.

4. Send back easily to "Unopened"

In ConvertKit, you can forward your transmissions to people who did not open them the first time with a single click. I do not know how it works in Mailchimp, but in Aweber, it was a big problem and it's rarely worth the effort to do it. But, with ConvertKit, I just click on that button and I see that my opening rates increase by at least 10%, which makes a big difference in the number of eyes of your messages.

5. Funnels and simplified messages

I'm a girl from the zero inboxes, every day. I subscribe to a very limited number of newsletters and I am very consistent with the way I manage my inbox. This means that I have an eagle eye in the types of messages that I send each day. I can tell you that I feel upset when they send me auto-reply messages that are promoting a product that I already bought or send me a sales email when I subscribed yesterday.

I know that I can not be the only one and I prefer to treat my subscribers and clients as I would like them to treat me. With ConvertKit, this is very easy to manage through tagging, automation, and segmentation. This creates happier subscribers, a more agile and focused marketing, and helps create cleaner inboxes around the world. ??

6. See the conversion rates at a glance

When I was with Aweber, I had to click on several screens to see how an opt-in form was being converted and then do it again for each form. Which, honestly, led me to not knowing how my forms worked. With ConvertKit, all of my forms are right on my home page so I can see at a glance what's working, what's not, and make adjustments on the fly.

7. Duplicate the Autoresponder series with a single click

This is a feature that I still have to take advantage of since it is still quite new. However, I am super excited because I am planning to review my current free course, Ease + Flow, in the coming weeks. Then, when I'm ready to make those updates, I can duplicate the series and work on the new one without interrupting the subscribers who are already taking the current version. Even better, once the new version is ready, I can update my existing forms to point to the new course with a couple of clicks, I will not have to create all the new forms.

With Aweber, it was time to copy, paste and create all the new forms to make this happen OR edit an existing series that could create some confusion for the subscribers, according to the types of changes that are made. This is very important for me because the experience of my clients and subscribers is one of my main priorities. I want it to be as clear and agile as possible for them.

8. Integrations in abundance

ConvertKit has a long list of integrations that facilitate the sale of its products and services. You can have your shopping cart activate tags, segmentation, subscription and cancellation of the subscription. It also integrates with services such as LeadPages for ClickFunnels, which makes landing pages even easier.

As an efficiency addict, this is impressive. With Aweber, it was possible to have these integrations, but the process was much more complicated and, often, still complicated for the clients.

9. Individual Opt-In or confirm in the download

This has to be one of the best features. When someone subscribes to your list, you have the option of doing just one opt-in, which is great. Or you can configure it to register twice and download what you want. Do not send two or three different emails just to get your thing for free. They click to download your stuff and, like magic, they have also confirmed.

With fewer emails sent, all take advantage of their free offer much faster and have a much cleaner inbox. And, your conversion rates will improve dramatically. So impressive, right?

10. Support is stellar

I could not write all this post without talking about how amazing the ConvertKit support is. They answer me quickly, they speak to me in simple language, instead of mumbo jumbo technical, and they get into trouble when the resolution is not obvious instead of leaving me high and dry.

They also have a large knowledge base full of tutorials that guide you through how to implement all these incredible features. They are constantly adding more features and listening to the comments of the users. Every time I receive an updated email from them, I know that something very good is happening to improve the already fantastic experience. Another great thing about them is that they share their real income every month and how their business grows, including things that do not work.

If it's not obvious by now, I love ConvertKit. I am sure that ConvertKit has all the features I need to grow my business in the next few years and, honestly, I can not say enough about it.
