Should I change from Aweber or MailChimp to ConvertKit?

Should I change from Aweber or MailChimp to ConvertKit?

It is, I publicly changed email providers from MailChimp (my first love-you never forget your first love) to ConvertKit last fall, people have asked me if they should change too.

The answer is complicated, so I wanted to leave my thoughts in a comprehensive review of ConvertKit and provide a kind of self-assessment to decide if it is also a good step for you.

Why I changed from MailChimp to ConvertKit

I was a MailChimp customer for almost 7 years.   After the first year, I knew that I had overcome them.   It was not that the service was bad, is   Great, is that what I wanted to do with email marketing could not be done with MailChimp.   The main feature that I lacked was advanced segmentation (the ability to send people the best content or offers based on their interests).

The other feature that I was missing was being able to send multiple opt-in incentives while maintaining a good list.

Over the years, MailChimp added more and more features and more and more integrations (mostly Zapier and LeadPages) that allowed me to improvise most of the functions I was looking for.

However, this just left my account even more bulky and difficult to manage.

But the biggest problem of all was that he was avoiding sending emails to people because he feared he could segment them properly so that they only received the email that was intended for them.

That meant money left on the table.

Nathan Barry, the founder of ConvertKit, phoned me in September 2015. We chatted about the product, what they were working on and why it could be a good option for many of my clients.   customers.   He was not trying to sell me.   I just wanted you to mention ConvertKit when I talked about email marketing in classes and workshops.

But they sold me.

It was time to move on from MailChimp and I just did not want the hassle of a solution like InfusionSoft or Ontraport.

As I mentioned, the main reason I changed was the ability to send the right email to the right people.   It's that easy.

What I love about ConvertKit

The tagging in ConvertKitConvertKit makes highly managed email easy.

The interior of my account is configured with no less than 43 different labels.   Each label tells me something about the people associated with it.   I can mix and match those tags and create an email specially designed for the people I write with.

Another reason why I love ConvertKit is how easy it is to create sequences.   The sequences (or courses, automatic responses or automated email) can be activated by whatever happens in the system.   You can set up a new subscriber in a welcome sequence, a new buyer in a shipping sequence or a former subscriber in a free course sequence.

Based on the activity of subscribers in one sequence, I can move them to another.

The possibilities are endless.

I also love the simplicity of the emails I'm sending.   My goal is to be your business mentor from afar in your inbox a few times a week.

Would your mentor send you an HTML email in color?   I doubt it.   They would write something simple, easy to read and personal.   ConvertKit makes it really easy.

Why should not you switch to ConvertKit?

Now, just because I'm in ConvertKit and recommend it to many does not mean that you must change.   Here there are some reasons why you should not.

1. You want an all in one solution.

If you want an all-in-one solution that hosts content, accepts payments, manages affiliates, etc., it should be changed to something like InfusionSoft.   Yes, it's going to be a lot of work.   Yes, you will pay a lot for it. But it is worth it if your business is such that having this type of solution will make your life easier and will add to your results.

Our main e-commerce tool is WooCommerce and I have an affiliate management plug-in that works well with it.   While perfection is impressive, it is not always practical and I am happy with the balance we have achieved in terms of integration and personalization.

2. You want to send nice emails.

There are many ($$$) reasons to send a simple text or plain text emails.   There are also many reasons to send HTML emails.

If you want to send something with many images, a banner/logo and columns, you must use a provider such as MailChimp.   It can be done with ConvertKit, but I would not recommend it.

Just keep in mind that many emails are read on a phone or other mobile device.   It is possible that my emails are not as "pretty" as they used to be, but I know that more people who start reading them will read until the end.   That is important.

3. You are not willing to commit to a labeling strategy.

When I switched to ConvertKit, I tried to take my email taxonomy (as it were) from MailChimp and transfer it.   That was a disaster.   Fortunately, one of the members of my team is a genius with logic puzzles like this.   It took what I wanted to do with email and what we knew about individual subscribers and created the labeling taxonomy seen above.

Yours does not have to be so complicated, but if you are not willing to devote energy to discovering a labeling system and then commit to using it successfully, do not switch to a provider like ConvertKit.

This could be the biggest obstacle of all.   However, you should ask yourself if you are really committed to email marketing if you are not willing to commit to solving this problem.

What follows for your email marketing?

In the end, whether you switch to convert it from MailChimp or Aweber or choose something completely different, the decision should not be based on where your company is now.

You should look forward to what you would like to be able to do with your email marketing, how you would like to be able to communicate with customers and how you would like to find new potential customers in the future.

The longer it takes you to change to the solution that best meets your needs, the more difficult that change will be (trust me, I know).

ConvertKit is probably the right choice for you if:

You want to be able to send the right messages and offers to the right people.

You want to start or accelerate the automation of your best messages so that sales begin to occur on your own.

You want to incorporate new clients easily and with minimal effort.

You want to prioritize simplicity and clarity in your communications.

You want to use multiple email subscription incentives to increase your audience and track your progress.
